After a bit of a pause — thanks to illness, a hospital stay, and the usual chaos life sometimes throws our way — I’m finally getting back on track with my solo travel adventures. It’s been a while, but this week I’m setting sail on Iona with P&O Cruises, heading for the serene beauty of the Norwegian Fjords. The forecast looks kind, and honestly, I can’t think of a better way to ease back into travel than a gentle cruise with spectacular scenery and fresh sea air.
If you’ve ever considered solo travel but haven’t quite taken the leap, let me offer a little encouragement. People often tell me it’s unusual to travel alone — but the truth is, it’s more common than ever. There are so many websites, communities, and resources now that cater specifically to solo travellers. You’re never really alone unless you want to be.
In fact, just last week I met a woman holidaying solo at a UK resort. She was dancing every night — and she’s blind. No companion, no fuss — just her, the music, and a love of life that couldn’t be dimmed. Stories like hers remind me why I do this. Travel is about freedom, confidence, and discovery — and it doesn’t matter who you’re with (or not with) to experience that.
So if you’re waiting for the right time, the right person, or the perfect plan — maybe stop waiting. The world’s out there, and it’s friendlier than you think.
See you out there — maybe on deck, watching the fjords go by. Tricia.
